I am a PhD student in the Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics program. I am interested in biomedical research at the intersection of genomics, immunology, epidemiology and public health. I study tuberculosis (TB), a disease that is prevalent in my home country, South Africa. My current research in the Farhat Lab investigates evidence of mixed genetic variants (e.g. heteroresistance) in *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* bacterial isolates in order to (1) differentiate real genetic variants at intermediate/mixed allele frequencies from sequencing error, and (2) determine how antibiotic resistance phenotypes are explained by resistance-conferring variants at mixed allele frequencies.
